Food insecurity is when the lack of food dangers a person's life or health.
Nearly 1.2 million New Yorkers were experiencing food insecurity, pre-pandemic. Now the numbers increased by 38% due to COVID-19. Undernourishment due to food insecurity can also increase the risk of hospitalization and death from COVID-19.
This is why ACT organizes and facilitates food distribution to the families of NYC. ACT provides free fresh produce and nonperishable goods for underserved communities.
